Florida residents finally have reason to celebrate Earth Day

FT. LAUDERDALE - Rob Kornahrens says with respect to Earth Day on Sunday, it’s time to change the way Florida has relied upon electricity.

After spending the past five years perfecting a hurricane-proof roof, Kornahrens is now focused on the installation of solar power roofs in Florida.

Kornahrens, of Advanced Roofing, has secured the distribution rights in Florida for energy conversion with United Solar Ovonic, the world leader in solar technology. The solar powered roofs will be hurricane-proof.

Restaurant first in city to use solar power

The Ted's Montana Grill restaurant has become the city's first restaurant to use photovoltaics (PV) - or solar power - to conserve energy, company and Tallahassee officials confirmed Monday. The Tallahassee Ted's Montana Grill is the first member of the Atlanta-based chain in the nation to use solar power.

One World Sustainable Inc. consulted with the restaurant to install 44 panels on the upper roof and 22 panels on the patio roof - 66 panels total. The panels supply about 5 percent of the restaurant's energy needs.

PV Industry in China Confronts Huge Potential Risk

(PressZoom) - “China Energy Sector Analysis” – a recent market research report published by RNCOS – has found, “Production of solar cells in China has shown an impressive growth over the last few years. Within just two-three years ( roughly during 2003-2005 ), the country’s share in solar cell production, relative to global production, rose to 8% ( from 1.07% ), next only to Japan & Europe.”

Growing further, solar cell production in China reached 370 MW ( excluding the 200 MW output of Taiwan ) in 2006. However, the photovoltaic ( PV ) market of China is still not able to match up the pace of development of photovoltaic industry. As a result of this, the Chinese PV industry is confronting huge potential risks.

Akeena Solar, based in Los Gatos, Calif., has completed a 300 kW solar power project at the Air National Guard Armory in Fresno, Calif.

According to the company, Akeena installed 566 solar panels to generate the power, which equals the usage of approximately 200 households. The installation is the largest of its kind in the Central Valley region of California, Akeena adds.
